Germany's Packaging Waste Mountain Is Growing

According to Germany's Umweltbundesamt or Federal Environment Agency, the country generated 18.7 million tonnes of packaging waste in 2017. That's around 227 kg per capita, of which 107 kg comes from private consumers. The sheer amount of packaging waste has climbed steadily over the past two decades as the following infographics shows. That is expecially true for plastic and paper waste which have risen 79 and 34 percent respectively since 2000.
