Covid-19 in the UK: intensive care survival rate

Irrespective of political views, the UK's collective thoughts are with Boris Johnson and his family this morning after the prime minister was admitted to intensive care due to Covid-19. While perhaps uncomfortable for some, this news does lead to the question of survival rates for coronavirus patients in critical care units. Based on Intensive Care National Audit & Research Centre (ICNARC) data for 690 patients with confirmed Covid-19 in the UK, and as of 3 April,, this infographic has an answer.

Of course, with the speed at which the coronavirus crisis is developing, figures such as these are likely to change to some degree over time as more data is made available. The rate quoted here is based on all such cases reported to ICNARC and does not necessarily reflect the specific case of the prime minister.
