Booking platforms bolster business for independent hotels in the EU

Online travel platforms support independent hotels in a big way. In 2019, 133 million additional overnight stays were generated via online booking platforms in the EU, the majority of which going to independent hotels. In fact, 85 percent of all online travel platform bookings in Europe go to independent hotels compared to the market average of just 58 percent. This is likely due to the increased global visibility and more even playing field enabled by online booking sites, making it easier and cheaper for travelers and small businesses to connect and be seen.
