Fair Labor Practices Not a Major Selling Point for Fashion

Relatively few people take fair labor practices into account when buying fashion items. That's what emerges from a recent survey conducted by Statista in 2025. Just over a quarter (27 percent) of the people surveyed in Brazil said they avoid fashion brands that do not ensure fair labor practices, and that proportion was much lower in many of the other countries included in Statista's survey. U.S. respondents, for instance, were only 16 percent to take fair labor practices into account when buying clothes, and in Japan, they were only 12 percent. In other Asian countries such as China and India, the safe and ethical treatment of garment workers seemed to matter a bit more for consumers.
