Spending Creeps up Once More

The word Hallowe'en is of Scottish origin, meaning 'Hallows Evening'. It is celebrated on the eve of the Christian festival of All Souls on the last day of October. In the olden days it was viewed as a time when souls were enabled to freely wander the earth and evil spirits, the devil, and witches were at their most powerful.

Like many other festivities, Halloween has become one of the yearly events when corporations can make a buck by selling the goodies to go with the occasion, in this case, mostly sweets and costumes to get the clientele tricking and treating. As our chart shows, there has been a steady increase in Halloween spending in the U.S.
