Degree of employment informality in Egypt 2019, by sector
In 2019, the share of employment outside of establishments in Egypt was at roughly 45.1 percent. As of the same year, agriculture was the sector with the highest informality with up to 95.6 of the employment in that sector falling outside of establishments. Moreover, three other sectors showed relatively high informality surpassing 80 percent, namely, construction, household activities, and transportation and storage. The three sectors showing the lowest employment in the shadow economy are financial intermediaries, social services, along with the electricity sector.
