The ascent times of fighter planes during the Second World War was important for a variety of reasons. Ascent times dictated the speed at which defensive forces could get into the air to repel an enemy attack, as well as the ability to fly into a higher position while in combat. Of the models listed by the source, Japan's I-02 Mitsubishi was the fastest fighter plane to reach the 5,000 meter mark, doing so in half the time of the German Messerschmitt Me-110.
Varying heights are available for different models, but it should be noted that comparing the average speeds per 1,000 meters would not allow a fully accurate comparison, due to the influence of gravity, air pressure, and engine performance at different altitudes.
