Americans Most Commonly Use Facebook and YouTube

Facebook and YouTube are the most common forms of social media, but it didn't used to always be that way. According to study conducted by Pew Research, Instagram became the third most popular app following the rise of YouTube.

Over the past decade, social media use has increased across all platforms, with the most significant change being seen in YouTube.

Nearly 75 percent of adults say they use the platform, according to Pew Research Center. It’s even higher among Gen Z. 90 percent say they frequent YouTube. As of January 2019, there were tens of thousands of channels, which resulted in more than 250,000 subscribers. Part of what’s made YouTube so popular is its algorithm. It generates suggestions for the next video a viewer should watch.
