COVID-19: Iran

As the COVID-19 disease spreads outside of China, countries like Italy, Iran and Spain are leading the world in new coronavirus cases.

Iran reported it’s first cases in the middle of February. Multiple Iranian officials have tested positive for coronavirus, and some in the country are questioning the legitimacy of Iran’s response to the outbreak. The World Health Organization has stated they have seen no problems yet with Iran’s reported figures.

Total cases of COVID-19 have quickly increased in Iran, with a peak of 44,605 as of March 31. Daily new cases are also picking up speed but still much lower relative to other countries, with 3,110 new cases reported on March 31. The death toll in the country is 2,898 as of March 31. Overall, the recovery rate is reported at 83.5 percent of all cases in Iran as of March 31.
