How Much Do Americans Pay For Pet Dogs?

With dog ownership booming in the United States as a result of the pandemic, how much are people paying to acquire the animals? While some studies state that a new puppy averages $1,300 in the U.S. today, research from Statista has found that the majority of people tend to pay less for a pet dog.

The Global Consumer Survey data shows that a 38 percent majority of U.S. dog owners adopted their most recent pet and did not pay any costs. Other dog owners are more keen to have a thoroughbred as a pet with 16 percent of people paying between $250 and $500 while 10 percent handed over between $500 and $750. Just six percent of dog owners paid between $750 and $1,000 for their most recent four-legged companion.
