The Rise Of Unmarried Parenting

Across the world, more and more parents are having children without getting married. In the United States, 4.2 percent of children lived with unmarried parents in 2014, an increase on 2.9 percent in 2005. Some of the most notable increases have occurred in countries where religion and family life are strongly intertwined such as Poland and Ireland. In Poland, 2.5 percent of children lived with unmarried parents a decade ago and this has now grown to 15 percent. Estonia had the highest rate of children living with two cohabiting parents in 2014 - just under 31 percent.
