Total revenue of Stena AB from 2012 to 2018
(in million SEK)
Total revenue of Stena AB 2012-2018
In 2018, the Swedish family-owned company Stena AB generated a revenue of roughly 34.73 billion Swedish kronor. This was an increase of three percent compared to the previous year. As one of the largest ferry operators worldwide, ferry transport is the company’s main source of income. Other segments include offshore drilling, shipping, property, as well as new businesses, such as wind energy.

The rise of Stena Group

Stena AB was founded in 1939, with the establishment of the Sten A Olsson Metallprodukter trading company. Gradually, the enterprise focused on new business segments besides trading. The first ship, for example, was bought a few years after Stena’s foundation, although ferry services only started to operate in the 1960s. Today, the company owns and charters more than one hundred vessels.

Passenger shipping in Sweden

Although the number of passenger vessels and ferries decreased over the last decade, passenger shipping is still a large market in Sweden. Main destinations from Swedish ports are the Nordic countries Denmark, Finland, and Norway, the Baltic states Estonia and Latvia, as well as Germany and Poland.
