Renewable energy transition in India

India's commitment to clean energy is a stride towards improving energy security, improving power access, and mitigating climate change. As one of the world's most rapidly growing economies, India has set its own ambitious renewable energy goals. In 2015, the Indian government declared an ambitious target of 175 GW from renewables by 2022 to lower emissions, mainly from the energy sector. Currently, India is the fifth-largest clean energy producer globally and is expected to exceed its target with its progress. While renewables are gaining ground in the global energy sector, the domestic market has performed well, especially in the solar and wind industries.
