In January 2024, LOS40 MX - La Corneta, a Mexican radio run by Madrid-based Grupo Prisa, was the most downloaded podcast in Latin America, with more than 788 thousand downloads per week. Prisa was also among Latin America's top digital radio brands in early 2023. O Assunto, a news discussion podcast, run by the Brazilian media company Grupo Globo and Mais Recentes – by the radio subsidiary of Grupo Globo – had around 423 and 357 thousand downloads that month, respectively.
Voices from the outside
Throughout Spanish-speaking Latin America, all but one of the most downloaded podcasts belong to foreign companies. Prisa Radio from Spain is responsible for two podcasts in the top 20, including Así las Cosas con Carlos Loret de Mola, with about 89 thousand downloads.
New podcasts, old media conglomerates
All four Brazilian podcasts in the top 10 belong to legacy media groups. Mais Recentes and Repórter CBN are run by Rio de Janeiro-based Grupo Globo, the largest media holding in South America. Grupo Folha produces Boletim Folha. The two companies are also publishers of Brazil's most-read daily newspapers: Folha de S. Paulo and O Globo.
