As of 2020, almost 1.2 million households received the Citizens' Basic Income in Italy. Small households made up the largest group of households receiving the Basic Income.
The Basic Income was launched in Italy in 2019 and was designed to reduce poverty and unemployment. Among others, the financial requirements to receive the basic income included having an annual indicator of the equivalized economic situation not above 9,360 euros.
