Share of People With Access to HIV Therapy Steadily Rising

The coming Monday marks the start of the 22nd biannual World AIDS Conference in Amsterdam. Even though it isn't as heavily under the media spotlight as it was in the 1980's, AIDS still remains one of the biggest epidemical issues of our time. Currently there are some 36 million people living with the HI virus. Even though infection rates are dropping in many regions of the world, advanced medication and improved access to therapy make it possible for larger shares of infected people to enhance the quality and duration of their lives.

Even though the situation is improving, there are still more than 15 million HIV patients left without proper medical treatment and states like Russia, ignoring the reality of HIV and AIDS, currently close to the realms of being a national epidemic
