What the U.S. Searched for in 2018

Google has released its search trends for 2018. For the United States the top searches of the year included the World Cup and Hurricane Florence. Some notable, celebrity deaths dominated the top 5 most searched terms as well, including the deaths of Mac Miller, Kate Spade, and Anthony Bourdain.

For the news category, the World Cup also made a showing in the most searched terms. Hurricane Florence and Michael made an appearance in the top five news searches, alongside the election results and the mega millions. People searching from the United States asked for some clarification on Bitcoin, racketeering, DACA, and government shutdowns as well.
