How Much Is Too Much for Streaming Subscription?

Consumers have more options for monthly streaming subscription service offerings as many cut the cord and expand their content options with plans from companies like Netflix, HBO, Hulu, and soon-to-be Disney+.

Among adults in the U.S. that Morning Consult surveyed, 17 percent thought that $15 or less for a monthly streaming subscription was too expensive. Most consumers price threshold hovered around the $20 to $35 range, with a little over a quarter of respondents capping that as their upper cost. Still, 37 percent of people put their maximum streaming service subscription north of $50.

While the $50 per month price tag may seem astronomical when compared to SVOD services that currently price their content at around $16 per month, Morning Consult found that about 90 percent of consumers pay more than $50 per month for cable. Though the comparative price of streaming subscriptions is significantly less than monthly cable, companies like Netflix experienced pushback when they raised prices earlier this year.
