Netflix has been using the promotional slogan 'Netflix is a Joke' for a few years now - a seemingly self-deriding phrase intended to draw attention to the wealth of comedy content it hosts on its video streaming platform. As a Statista Global Consumer Survey focus on the company reveals, this approach has clearly been on point.

Looking at this infographic, comedy is firmly at the top of the list when Netflix customers are asked which types of films or shows they watch as online content. 74 percent of respondents named comedy when answering the question, followed by dramas with 65 percent and the thriller/mystery/crime genres on 59 percent. The survey also revealed Netflix to be the most popular VOD service in the United States. 82 percent of respondents that pay for a VOD subscription said they are Netflix customers. Amazon Prime Video was the second most popular with 65 percent, followed by Hulu on 51 percent.
