Most travelers sort out their travel insurance at the moment they book, according to a survey by Amadeus of 3,000 travelers worldwide conducted in the fourth quarter of 2025. 43% of respondents said they arrange their travel protection during the booking flow, while 29% wait until a few weeks before their trip. After that the share falls off sharply, with only 8% buying cover just before departure, and only 4% say they buy at the last minute after a pop-up or reminder. Together, these four answers cover 84% of respondents, which suggests the rest either buy at another point or don't buy insurance at all. These results show that the largest share of policies are bought at checkout, so an airline or online travel agency that doesn't offer cover at that stage misses the largest group of buyers.
