Music Consumption

How Americans Listen to Music

While CDs and vinyl records are having a moment, as music fans turn back time in search of collectors’ items in the digital age, the convenience and value proposition of streaming services is still hard to beat. According to Statista Consumer Insights, 63 percent of U.S. respondents listened to music via streaming in the 12 months preceding the survey, compared to just 11 percent who listened to music on vinyl records. At 24 percent, CDs are still surprisingly popular given their rapid decline in sales over the past two decades. While music formats have come and gone, there’s one constant that U.S. music lovers still turn to regularly: 42 percent of U.S. adults listened to the radio in the 12 months leading up to the survey.
