Electronic Stores
Traditional Electronics Stores Popular With Older Americans
New data from Statista Consumer Insights Brand KPIs shows that traditional electronics stores are still popular among U.S. Baby Boomers, while all other generations favor online-only stores like Amazon. In the survey carried out in July, at least 50 percent of members of Gen X, Gen Z as well as Millennials said they liked Amazon to shop for electronics online, landing it in rank 1 for these age groups, compared to just 29 percent of Baby Boomers saying the same. Half on Gen Z respondents also named the Apple online store as a preferred place to shop for electronics.
Best Buy’s online store was liked by 41 percent of Baby Boomers and still made the top 3 of the most popular online stores for electronics among Gen X and Millennials. One general retailer proved popular among all generations. Between 42 percent and 49 percent of all surveyed age groups said they liked the Walmart online store for electronics purchases.
Also apparent in the data is that younger generations use online channels more than older ones to buy electronics. However, the gap was not massive, at least not within the age groups included in the survey.
