Industry revenue of »manufacture of basic chemicals, fertilisers« in Czechia 2011-2023

Between 2011-2016, revenues of the Czech chemicals and fertilizers industry fluctuated, as it was still battling the aftermath of the Eurozone crisis. Many factories witnessed closures, as the number of employees reduced from 30,600 in 2008 to 27,600 in 2014. However, the industry has recovered quite well ever since, owing to the favorable government policies and innovative manufacturing processes and now is the second largest manufacturing industry in the country, after automotive, according to data from Cefic Europe. Industry revenues are projected to grow from 6.7 billion U.S. dollars in 2017 to over 7.6 billion U.S. dollars by 2023. As of year-end 2018, 1851 chemical companies were registered in the country.

One of the challenges surrounding the industry in the medium to long term is the low production of fuels such as crude oil, which are essential in manufacturing chemicals. As of 2017, there were only three enterprises in the crude petroleum extraction industry in the country. As a result, nearly all of the crude oil is imported, from countries including Russia and Azerbaijan.
