Regulating greenhouse gas emissions
Korea has produced a lot of greenhouse gases due to its manufacturing-oriented industrial structure. Korea aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 37 percent by 2030. Hence, companies are sharing the burden of greenhouse gas emissions through carbon credit trading. In addition, efforts are being made to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by subsidizing electric vehicles that use renewable energy.
Air pollution problems
Korea is experiencing air pollution problems such as yellow dust and fine dust. According to one survey, the environmental issue which caused the most concern for Korean people was air pollution. Korean people recognized that air pollution was an environmental problem that had to be dealt with and which required the most attention from the government. Generally, people avoid going out on days when the concentration of fine dust in the atmosphere is high, and it is also common to wear a mask when out during times of high fine dust levels. In addition, the usage of air purifiers at home has increased significantly in Korea likely due to air pollution.
