Value of exported goods from Denmark 2011-2021

In 2021, Denmark exported goods worth around 790 billion Danish kroner. That was significantly higher compared to the 2019 when the export value peaked at 736 billion kroner. The drop in exports from the previous year is because of the coronavirus (COVID-19), which impacted the whole Danish economy. Over the past decade, however, exports in Denmark increased overall by some 180 billion Danish kroner.

Positive trade balance

Despite a lower value of exported goods, the trade balance in Denmark remains positive. A country’s trade balance is the value of exported goods minus the value of imported goods. A positive trade balance signifies a trade surplus, while a negative value signifies a trade deficit. In 2021, Denmark imported goods worth 756 billion Danish kroner, indicating that the trade balance has a surplus.

Most important trading partners

The neighboring country, Germany, is by far the most important trading partner for Denmark. Goods worth roughly 109 billion Danish kroner were exported to the Southern neighbor in 2021. Sweden accounted for the second most exports that same year, reaching over 82 billion kroner. Conversely, Germany and Sweden are also the most important import partners for Denmark. In fact, Denmark imported goods from Germany worth 158 billion Danish kroner that same year.
