In a survey conducted in 2022 about climate change in New Zealand, the majority of 81 percent of respondents believed that the government should provide guidelines to local councils to reduce and avoid climate change impacts. In the same survey, just 34 percent of respondents thought that the government should raise taxes to help fund its response to climate change.
