Number of dan grade karate athletes in Japan 2022, by rank
As of March 2022, the Japan Karatedo Federation had 22,796 registered members with the grade of first dan. Athletes with this rank were the most numerous, followed by athletes who acquired the third dan rank. Lower dan ranks can be acquired either through examination or through successes in competitions.
