As of 2020/2021, the contribution of wholesale and retail trade to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Egypt amounted to over 552.5 billion Egyptian pounds (which is comparable to 17.88 billion U.S. dollars). This represented an increase from around 529.1 billion Egyptian pounds (17.12 billion U.S. dollars). Since 2016/2017, the GDP contribution of wholesale and retail trade in Egypt followed a positive trend.
