California's water supply strategy 2020-2021, by action
Rising temperatures and droughts could potentially reduce California's existing water supply by up to 10 percent over the next 20 years. To help communities affected by drought and secure California's water supply, billions will be invested in the state's water system, such as in recycled water projects and desalination technology. California aims to reuse at least 0.8 million acre-feet (MAF) of water per year by 2030, and 1.8 MAF by 2040. More efficient water use and conversation will also be prioritized, with plans to reduce annual water demand in urban areas by at least 0.5 MAF by 2040.
