Get in touch with us nowSince 2002, Turkey has emerged as by far the most important export market for EU-based companies, when compared with other potential future EU members (known as accession countries). While in 2008 exports to Turkey were only twice as large as the next largest export market, Ukraine, since then the amount of exports to the country have soared, being worth more than all the other candidate countries combined in 2022.
Ukraine has declined as a prominent export market since 2014, as Russia's intervention in the east of the country and their illegal annexation of the Crimean peninsula have caused signficant economic and political disruption. At the same time, Serbia has emerged as a significant export market, increasing from around 6 billion Euros worth of exports in 2006, to almost 25 billion in 2022.
