Tax ratio as a percentage of gross domestic product (GDP) in Sweden 2007-2017 The tax ratio as a percentage of the gross domestic product in Sweden increased since 2014, reaching 44.3 percent in 2017. The gross domestic product in the country increased as well during the same period. In fact, it increased annually from 2010 to 2018, but the tax ratio as a share of the gross domestic product decreased from 2007 to 2011.
Increase in government revenues

Both, the gross domestic product and the tax revenue as a share of the gross domestic product increased. This generated a sharp increase in the central government revenue during the years from 2014 to 2016, when they amounted to around one trillion Swedish kronor.

Central government income

The largest source of the central government’s income came from tax from labor, direct or indirect. The direct taxes from labor generated higher amounts than the indirect tax from labor. In 2017, the direct taxes generated an income of 635.6 billion Swedish kronor, while the indirect taxes on labor generated 558.8 billion Swedish kronor.
