Number of workers at coffee bars in Italy 2020, by month
The number of individuals working for coffee bars in Italy fell dramatically in April 2020 over the previous month. Since the Italian government implemented a national lockdown to limit the spread of COVID-19 infections, food services had to stay close to the public between March and May 2020. As a result of the closures, the number of coffee bars' employees dropped from nearly 206 thousand in March to around 75 thousand in April. While employment figures rose during the summer, they went down again over the last months of 2020, as the country adopted new emergency restrictions due to the health crisis.
