Prison system in Romania

This report provides information on the number of prisoners and detainees in Romanian prisons as well as data related to the Romanian penitentiary system. The number of prisoners in Romania has decreased considerably over the last years. However, despite the lower number of inmates and the higher budget allocated for the penitentiary system nowadays, overcrowding in prisons and human rights violations still remain a problem.
