Leading drugstores in the U.S. 2023, based on retail sales

In 2023, CVS Health Corporation was the leading drugstore in the United States, recording about 114 billion U.S. dollars in retail sales. Second in the ranking came Walgreens Boots Alliance, with around 105 billion U.S. dollars.

The global brand value of CVS added up to over 30 billion U.S. dollars in 2024. In 2023, the company generated about 116.8 billion U.S. dollars from its pharmacy retail segment, and in the same year, it was the leading U.S. drugstore with the highest number of physical stores in the country.

Walgreens Boots Alliance

Walgreens Boots Alliance is not only a leading health and beauty destination for consumers in the United States, but it also boasts an international presence. Despite generating most of its total sales in the U.S. region, the company recorded an increase in sales also in the United Kingdom and in Germany as of 2023. In the same year, the number of Boots stores in the UK added up to about 2,514, only slightly lower than in the previous financial year.
