Number of Marriott International hotels worldwide 2009-2023

Global hotel chain Marriott International accounted for 8,785 properties worldwide in 2023, up from 8,288 the previous year. The increase in properties from 2015 to 2016 can most likely be explained by Marriott’s acquisition of Canadian chain Delta Hotels and American chain Starwood Hotels and Resorts, in the years 2015 and 2016, respectively. Marriott increased its international presence outside of the U.S., with over two thousand properties in international locations in 2022. 

Continuously expanding hotel portfolio

With more than seven thousand properties across the world and around 30 brands in its portfolio, Marriott International is one of the largest hotel chains in the world. Competitor Hilton Worldwide had around one thousand fewer properties in 2021. Meanwhile, fellow U.S. hotel chain Wyndham Hotel Group led the 2021 ranking of the top hotel companies by number properties, accounting for nearly nine thousand units in its global portfolio.

Marriott International accounted for over 1.4 million hotel rooms worldwide in 2021, making it the leading hotel company in terms of number of guestrooms. Comparatively, Hilton Worldwide had around one million rooms. Wyndham Hotel Group had and 883 thousand rooms.
