Box office market share of PG-rated movies in the U.S. & Canada 1995-2023

Between 2014 and 2023, movies rated PG accounted for at least one-fifth of of the box office revenue in the United States and Canada. In 2022, the share stood at exactly 24.04 percent. PG stands for "parental guidance suggested". It means that, according to the Motion Picture Association (MPA), the film contains "[s]ome material [that] may not be suitable for children". Movies such as "The Lion King" (2019) and "Beauty and the Beast (2017)" are PG-rated. Meanwhile, romantic comedies' share in the box office revenue in the U.S. and Canada declined at the beginning of the 2010s.
