European shipyards were the world leaders in the cruise shipbuilding segment. In 2022, they had 66 cruise ships in their orderbooks, for a total of 6.1 million gross tonnage. The amount of cruise ships in the global orderbook decreased dramatically over the last few years as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
