Facility investments made by robot companies South Korea 2022, by type

In 2022, South Korean robot industry companies invested around 74.5 billion South Korean won into their research and development (R&D) facilities. That year, around 12.2 percent of all surveyed robot sector enterprises in South Korea replied that they had experience in investing into their facilities.

Next-generation factories

Within the framework of implementing Industry 4.0 technology into the manufacturing process, the South Korean government pledged to support the development of smart factories in the country. The successful adoption of disruptive technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and 5G connectivity, has the potential to unlock another level of responsiveness and efficiency for factories.

Government cooperation

The intent was certainly there in that both the public and private sector were actively trying to develop South Korea’s robot industry. However, there seemed to be some issues that needed work. According to a survey of robot company CEOs, promises made by the government were not completely felt in the active workplace. Additionally, the robot industry highlighted difficulties operating in the current legal framework. Nevertheless, the public support shown by the South Korean government is a positive indicator for the robot industry in South Korea.
