Cannabis use in the United States has increased sharply in states that have legalized it. But despite marijuana being legal in various states across the United States, its classification as an illegal Schedule I drug by the government makes it a non-starter for professional sports leagues and athletes, although it does remain appealing to fans of certain sports leagues. In an August 2020 survey in the United States, 35 percent of UFC fans either smoked or ingested marijuana, while 27 percent stated that they used CBD products.
