Measures of income inequality in the UK 1977-2021

In the 2020/21 financial year, various measures of inequality in the United Kingdom increased when compared with previous years. Compared with ten years earlier, the S80/20 ratio has increased from 5.3 to 5.9, the P90/10 ratio from 4.1 to 4.5, and the Palma ratio has remained at 1.4.

S80/S20 ratio: Ratio of the total income received by the richest 20% of people to that received by the poorest 20%.
P90/P10 ratio: Ratio of the income of the person at the bottom of the top 10% with that of the person at the top of the bottom 10%
Palma ratio Ratio of the income share of the richest 10% of people with that of the poorest 40% of people.
