Largest disaster displacements in Sub-Saharan Africa 2020
As of 2020, the Gu rains in Somalia caused over 500 displacements, the largest number due to natural catastrophes in Sub-Saharan Africa that year. During the yearly Somali rainy season, the country remains more susceptible to flash floods. Flooding also caused a high number of displacements in Sudan and South Sudan in July 2020 - respectively, 454 thousand and 404 thousand people had to flee their homes in a consequence of heavy rains.
