The most valuable merger and acquisition (M&A) deal in 2020 was the acquisition of Venafi, a machine-identity management company based in Salt Lake City, by Thoma Bravo, for 1.2 billion U.S. dollars. At the same time, Palo Alto Networks also acquired Expanse, an attack surface management company based in San Francisco, for one billion U.S. dollars.
