Number of people employed in South Africa Q3 2023, by gender and status
As of the third quarter of 2023, most South Africans were employed as employees. Around 6.6 million women and 7.8 million men were employees. Interestingly, out of the 707,000 employers in the country, around 74 percent were men. Furthermore, the share of men working as own-account workers was higher than women, with around 56 percent of the total self-employed individuals being men.
