Share of biodiversity hotspot species at risk of extinction 2021, by warming scenario
In a warming scenario of less than 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial averages, two percent of both terrestrial and marine species would be facing high risk of extinction in biodiversity hotspots, based on 2021 projections. Should warming exceed three degrees Celsius, 20 percent of terrestrial and 32 percent of marine species were projected to be at very high extinction risk.
