U.S.: cities with largest share of pedestrian roadways with speeds below 25 mph
At 84 percent, New York city showed the largest share of major pedestrian roadways with an average speed below 25 miles-per-hour. The other cities on the higher end of this ranking showed percentages of 70 down to 57 percent. Baltimore, Seattle and Portland showed approximately median values with 49, 45 and 42 percent, respectively. Finally, Nashville-Davidson and Los Angeles showed the smallest shares with 32 and 28 percent, respectively.
Over the past few years, concerns have risen regarding the rising number of pedestrian fatalities in the United States. The current data seeks to highlight the relevant shares of pedestrian roadways with safe average speeds.
