Expected wage increases after 21
After workers in the UK reach 21 years old, they will start to earn a slightly more, with their minimum wage increasing to 8.2 British pounds an hour. The minimum wage increases again when workers are over the age of 25 to 8.65 pounds an hour, a difference of over 51 pence.
Comparisons with the average wage
In 2020 the median hourly earnings for full time workers in the United Kingdom was 15.14 British pounds an hour almost twice as much as what the minimum wage was in the same year. Compared with 2006, the average hourly wage has grown by about 4 British pounds.
