The number of unemployed people in Belgium fluctuated from 2008 to 2019. During this period, unemployment fell from 423 thousand people in 2014 to 272 thousand in 2019. However, the unemployed population was rather unstable, as it increased from 2008 to 2010 and from 2011 to 2014.

An employed person is a person aged 15 years or older who during the reference week was without a job, a person who was available for a job and started work within 2 weeks after the reference week, or a person who was actively looking for a job during the previous 4 weeks, including the reference week.
