This diagram shows the percentage of people living under the poverty threshold in France in 2012, by geographical area. It appears that the highest poverty rate in France lay in rural areas, with almost 17 percent of French people living under the poverty line in these areas. However, in 2012, the poverty rate was also around 16 percent in big urban areas. The poverty rate is the lowest in outlying suburbs (less than 10 percent).
