The number of employed people in Malta was forecast to continuously increase between 2023 and 2024 by in total 0.01 million people (+3.45 percent). After the fourth consecutive increasing year, the number is estimated to reach 0.3 million people and therefore a new peak in 2024. Notably, the number of employed people was continuously increasing over the past years. As defined by the International Monetary Fund, the number of employed people refers to persons who during a pre-defined period, either: a) performed wage or salary work, b) held a formal attachment to their job (even if not currently working), (c) performed for-profit work for personal or family gain, (d) were with an enterprise although temporarily not at work for any specific reason.
