In 2020, the number of tourist arrivals amounted to about 3.7 million, down from 13 million the previous year. This drop can be linked to the travel restriction implemented due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. During the period under review, two major drops in the number of tourist arrivals can be recognized, recently and in 2016. In 2015, a Russian plane crashed in the Sinai peninsula leading to the second drop.
